May 2014 – May 2016
I wore a number of hats during my time at the Schiller Lab: web developer, software engineer, bioinformatician, database administrator, app/web server administrator, and general IT guy… I loved it :).
Schiller Lab is a biology information research lab at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (my alma matter). The lab’s aim is to provide useful information to researchers in the form of web applications and academic papers.
I was brought on board to develop the C-Terminome web application. I started with no knowledge of web development to leaving with a host of skills and experiences in 2 years time. I’m not the academic type, I much prefer having actionable knowledge than theoretical knowledge, the lab allowed me to finally put my knowledge to use and build something. It was a truly great experience.
Tech I used: HTML, CSS (Bootstrap), JavaScript (jQuery), Java, Tomcat, Httpd, MySQL, AWS (EC2, EB, RDB, Aurora), WIndows Server, Git/GitHub, Python (Django)
